How to Price Drywall Jobs: Hanging, Finishing and Repairs

Drywall jobs are usually priced per square foot of board for new work and by the job for repairs. New hang-and-finish work is commonly quoted somewhere around $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot depending on finish level, ceiling height and your market, while small patches are priced with a minimum charge because the drying time between coats dominates. 1. Measure board area. Wall area plus ceilings, then subtract large openings. Many contractors count sheets instead.
2. Choose the finish level. Level 4 is standard for painted walls; level 5 (a skim coat) for critical lighting or glossy paint costs noticeably more.
3. Adjust for conditions. Ceilings, high walls, stairwells, many corners and small rooms slow production.
