How many fence posts do I need?
Divide the fence length by the post spacing (usually 6 to 8 ft), round up to get sections, and add one. Then add a post for each gate and each corner or change in direction.
How many pickets do I need for a fence?
Convert the length to inches and divide by the picket width. 150 ft of fence with 5.5 inch pickets set side by side needs about 328 pickets. Add a few percent for culls.
How many bags of concrete per fence post?
Roughly two 50 lb bags of fast-setting concrete per 4x4 post in a typical 10 to 12 inch hole. Deeper holes, larger posts and gate posts need more.
How do fence contractors price per foot?
Most build a per-foot installed rate from materials, labor and margin for each fence type and height, then add gates, tear-out, hauling and difficult-ground surcharges as separate lines.
